The crime thriller Crime Boss: Rockay City with movie stars of the 90s failed in the press — at the time of writing this note, its average rating on Metacritic does not even reach 5 points out of 10.

Reviewers note that the developers had an interesting idea of a game combining PayDay features and rogue-like elements, but its implementation leaves much to be desired — none of the modes turned out to be competent, and the gameplay turned out to be superficial.

Missions offer different situations based on the plot context. Somewhere it is necessary to fight opponents in the open, and somewhere the gameplay asks the team for covert actions.

According to reviewers, neither one nor the other aspect of the gameplay can boast of high quality performance.

Shooting is scolded for the general external inexpressiveness, excessive survivability of opponents, as well as the scarcity of staging gameplay segments — often the project simply throws out a crowd of enemies on the players, which you have to get rid of without much enthusiasm.

In the case of stealth, claims were primarily voiced to the inconsistency of artificial intelligence and technical errors, due to which opponents can instantly notice the characters, after which Crime Boss:

Rockay City again turns into not the most interesting shooter.

The character selection system is designed to dilute the monotony of what is happening, where various characters have not only unique types of weapons, but also perks that modify the gameplay.

Someone from the controlled bandits may have increased health, and someone is able to move faster.

The most advertised feature of the game was an ensemble of famous action actors from the end of the last century.

Artists such as Michael Madsen, Kim Basinger, Michael Rooker, Danny Glover, Damion Poitier, Danny Trejo, Vanilla Ice and Chuck Norris took part in the game.

However, as journalists write, the actors were unable to give the shooter a special charm. And the whole point is how inexpressive and sparse the dialogues sound.

Chuck Norris is especially noted, as if in one unsuccessful take he read out the lines of the script assigned to him. The first 13 minutes of gameplay from IGN.

So far, Crime Boss: Rockay City is only available on PC in the Epic Games Store.

In June, it will also appear on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
