Dragon Quest Creator Yuji Hori Wins GDC 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award - Winners Announced

Last night, San Francisco hosted the 22nd annual Game Developers Choice Awards.

The best game of the year was recognized by the CCI with elements of the Inscryption bagel. She also won the grand prize at the previous Indie Ceremony at the Independent Games Festival Awards, becoming the first game in the history of GDC to be awarded the highest award at once by both awards.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart won in nominations for the best visual style and best technologies. The meditative puzzle Unpacking took prizes for sound and innovation. The best debut was Iron Gate, which released the survival simulator Valheim.

Psychonauts 2, the platform adventure that won the award for the best narrative, was notable among other major prize-winners. Best design recognized by cooperative action-venture It Takes social contribution was awarded to the boyfriend Dungeon dating simulator.

In addition to the best games of the past year, GDCA also received special awards from Stephen Spon, Senior Development Director at AbleGamers, and Yuji Hori, creator of the Dragon Quest series. The first became the winner of an ambassador's award, and the second won an award for lifetime achievements.

The winners were determined by a closed commission of the International Choice Awards Network, consisting of leading developers from all areas of the industry.
