Girls will no longer kiss Sonic in games

When creating new games about Sonic, developers from the Sonic Team do not forget about several rules, said the head of the studio, Takashi Iizuka, in an interview with Axios.

The first two rules are official, they must be strictly observed, and they relate to the capabilities of the protagonist.

Everything is simple here - the blue hedgehog must be fast in all games, and he must also not be able to swim without special devices. The producer noted that the last rule is respected even in sports games in the Mario & Sonic series, which are produced in conjunction with Nintendo, where one of the Olympic disciplines is swimming. Before entering the water, Sonic always uses, while Mario and his friends do not need them.

The third rule is unofficial, but Iizuka has adhered to it for the past 15 years. After the audience for the romantic scenes in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), where Sonic spent time with the human princess Eliza, who even kissed him, Sonic Team decided that they would no longer flirt with such themes. Accordingly, she is not going to show kissing scenes between Sonic and girls in the upcoming Sonic Frontiers and other new platformers. At least as long as Iizuka is at the helm.
