Such information in the recent Digital Foundry podcast was shared by Eurogamer tech columnist Jon Linneman.

The journalist noted that his ideas about Nintendo's plans are based on conversations with developers from different studios.

"As far as I understood from talking to various developers, at some point Nintendo planned to release an intermediate console, but in the end it seems that they abandoned such plans.

Accordingly, now it is already worth waiting for a full-fledged successor to Switch from her," Linneman said.

Earlier, information appeared in the media about the distribution of Switch Pro devkits close to third-party Nintendo developers, and they allegedly even prepared games for it, including exclusive ones, but according to Linneman, this initiative collapsed.

The reasons are unknown.

The shortage of components for the production of new consoles caused by the coronavirus pandemic probably played a role in this story - active planning of the intermediate model, if it took place, had to

this period. On the other hand, against this background, sales of the usual switch showed record dynamics, so Nintendo did not experience an urgent need for an improved model.

Interestingly, a week before the release of the OLED switch, Bloomberg reported

on the preparation of a new switch model with 4K support for release by the end of 2022. In circulation

to investors Nintendo soon denied this information.

In the fall of 2021, well-known insider Nate Drake said that instead of a switch or a switch, a professional 4K could come out immediately with a Nintendo 2 switch.

As for John Linneman, he doesn't expect Switch 2 to arrive in 2023.

The reviewer believes that the entire next year will continue to sell Nintendo Switch, Switch and Switch Lite with OLED display, for which major new exclusives are being prepared, such as Pikmin 4, the fire emblem to participate and

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
