SEGA has officially announced the purchase of the Finnish studio Rovio Entertainment. Earlier, this was told by employees of The Wall Street Journal, who received information from their sources.

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of fiscal year 2023. A Japanese publisher will acquire Angry Birds developers for $776 million.

Although initially it was assumed that the amount would reach a billion. The Board of Directors and shareholders of Rovio have already agreed to the deal.

SEGA notes that it has decided to merge in order to increase its presence in the global gaming market and increase corporate value by combining the business of the two companies.

SEGA hopes to increase the audience through character development and support the multi-platform development of Rovio.

It is important to note that in March Rovio wanted to buy Playtika for $ 810 million, as a result, the first refused the deal and accepted SEGA's offer for a lower price.
