iFixit posted a teardown video of the Steam Deck , revealing more information about the maintainability of Valve's handheld game console.

One of the main conclusions was that it would be quite difficult to change the battery in the Steam Deck on your own . If it comes to that, iFixit is advised to drain the battery below 25% before disassembling the device to prevent overheating, and use a heat source to soften the adhesive and pry the battery to remove it.

iFixit also noted the easy access to the M.2 drive, praising Valve for having the option to replace it for those interested . The SSD attaches to the case with just one screw and is covered by a thin, small screen to eliminate interference between the SSD and the wireless chips. seven points out of ten.

Along with the publication of the disassembly, iFixit announced that they received the status of an authorized seller of components for Steam Deck (and Valve Index ) . At the moment, Valve is still clarifying exactly which spare parts will be available separately, while the company warned that it is not recommended to disassemble the device yourself without proper skills, as this can lead to component damage and void the warranty.

Users who booked a Steam Deck in the first wave will begin receiving payment emails on their console on February 25th. Shipments will start on February 28th.
