The creators of Doctor Who have announced that the new Doctor for at least the next season of the series will be Shuti Gatwa, best known for his role as Eric in the Netflix series Sex Education.
The actor himself notes that he simply cannot convey in words the feelings that he experiences after being appointed to such an important role: among them there is both incredible joy and a bit of fear.
“This role and show means a lot to so many around the world, myself included, and each of my incredibly talented predecessors treated this unique duty and privilege with the utmost care. I will do my best to do the same."
Gatwa specifically noted that he is happy to join such a friendly team, and is ready to "give his heart to the show." At the same time, project showrunner Russell T. Davis calls for a special episode of the series with Jodie Whittaker, who previously played the role of the Doctor, the series should be released this fall. Davis also promised that 2023 will be exciting.
And they promise to share new details of what awaits Doctor Who when the time comes.
