The upcoming HBO television adaptation of The Last of Us will feature fewer violent episodes than the original game.

As producer Neil Drakmann noted, even at the early stages of production, the authors of the show decided to reduce the degree of bloody scenes, shifting the focus to other things.

This, of course, does not mean that there will be no fragments with a demonstration of violence in the film adaptation of The Last of Us, but they will be presented in a slightly different way.

"In the game, we needed a certain amount of action, violence, the use of game mechanics, and everything in order to establish a connection between the player and Joel, to put him in the right mood.

Thanks to such techniques, the audience could begin to better associate themselves with the character, look at the world through his eyes.

However, in passive forms of media, such an approach is not needed.

One of the things that I really liked when working with Craig Mazin and the HBO team is their desire to get rid of unnecessary cruelty, leaving only the most climactic and important scenes with violence.

Thanks to this, violence as a tool turned out to be even more expressive than in the game. If you prepare the viewer for some kind of threat for as long as possible, then the result is more effective.

Therefore, when we finally show infected and nutcrackers in the series, you immediately easily understand why humanity was on the verge of extinction, why these creatures are so terrible," said Neil Drakmann.

Recall that the world premiere of the HBO series The Last of Us will take place on January 15, 2023. According to rumors, The Last of Us Part III for PlayStation 5 is already in development.
